Pontypridd went into this game on the back of 5 straight wins. However arguably this would prove to be their toughest test yet against the students from UWIC.
The first 40 minutes saw some early sparring between the two sides, with Ponty marginally having the upper hand.
As half time approached the 5 minutes before the break turned out to be the defining period in the game. UWIC floated a cross into the home sides penalty box and the students scruffily poked the ball home, much to the remonstrations from the Town claiming, he pushed the ball into the net with his hand. The referee dismissed the protests and pointed to the centre circle for the goal to be awarded to the students. Ponty then proceeded to feel sorry for themselves and a minute before the break a second cross again came in from the right hand side found the UWIC attacker unmarked in the 6 yard box to easily head home to make the score 2-0 at the interval.
Half Time Score: 0-2
The second half "ebbed and flowed" with Ponty pushing to try and get a goal to force themselves back into the game with UWIC hitting the home team on the break as the Town continued to push more an more players forward. Both goals were rarely hindered in the second half and the final scoreline of 2-0 to UWIC was as a consequence of the 5 minutes before half time.
As Christian Edwards the Manager said after that this was "a smash and grab" win for the students, few would disagree with this summing up of proceedings.
UWIC and Ponty Town swapped places as a result of this match with the Town now third in Division 3. They must now pick themselves up for the visit of Risca on Tuesday and make sure they gain maximum points to remain in the hunt for promotion.

Pontypridd Town were aiming for their third win on the trot and fifth game unbeaten against one of the promotion contenders Monmouth Town.
Ponty started the brighter and the effective Duncan Culley netted mid way through the first half to give the Pont a 1-0 goal lead. Monmouth equalised within 5 minutes when they broke from the home teams attack to bring parity to the score line.
Monmouth started to get a foot hold in the game when Ponty's Mike Griffiths scored his first goal for the Club since his recent transfer from Rhydyfelin. The home side increased their lead further at the break to 3-1 when diminutive winger Taylor had the easiest opportunity when he rolled the ball into an empty net, again after sterling work by the strikers.
Half Time Score: 3-1
The second half again started well for Ponty with Culley getting his second of the game to increase Ponty's lead to 4-1. Culley had another opportunity to put the home side out of sight at 5-1, but the away keeper managed to produce a scrambled save. This was to be Ponty's last notable attack of the evening.
Monmouth now stepped on the gas, with Ponty defending deep and soaking up the pressure. There were a succession of corners that the home side dealt with, alongside several outstanding saves from keeper Goulton. However Monmouth finally broke the resistance with a goal 5 minutes from time to bring the scores to 4-2. The referee played an additional 5 minutes injury time which Ponty managed to see out for another excellent 3 points, that leaves them just 3 points off 3rd place.
The home team face Caerau Saturday in consecutive home games, which will be another test against one of the better sides in what is proving to be a competitive division.

Ponty travelled to face top of the table Grange Quinns on the back of 3 games unbeaten. The Town started the game the brighter and went deservedly into the lead with their skipper Toghill firing in a 20 yarder passed the desperate Quinns keeper. Ponty remained on top , but were forced into a change when they lost Jones to a hamstring injury after 25 minutes, Jason Lewis replacing him on the right.
During the last 20 minutes of the first half the Quinns got themselves back into the game, however at the break Ponty took a deserved 1-0 lead, as they looked far more solid at the back than in previous games.
Half Time Score: 0-1
The second half again started well for the Town with Culley netting early on for Ponty to increase their lead to 2-0. The front 2 of Culley and Griffiths continued to work tirelessly up front, not allowing the Quinn's back four to settle.
The Quinns started to push with 20 minutes to go and lumped a hopeful ball into the box. Goulton seemed to lose the flight of the ball in the air and the Quinns were back in the game at 2-1. Goulton later redeemed himself to pull off a great one on one save.
Quinns were now dominating possession as we approached the last few minutes with Ponty conceding possession to easily. Then came the contentious decision of the evening when the Quinns got the ball in the net which looked like the equaliser, only for the referee, who had an excellent game, to rule it out for off side. The decision seemed to "burst" the Quinns bubble and Ponty broke away to score the third by the "impressive" Culley to ensure all 3 points and keep the unbeaten run going .
Ponty go to Newport Civil Service next, in the hope to keep their winning run going and exact revenge on a side who beat them 2-0 earlier in this campaign.

Pontypridd Town entertained the one time division leaders for their last home game of the season. Ponty started the game brightly playing some neat football and on the half hour Duncan Culley scored an excellent over head kick to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.
The Town went into the break ahead and seemingly looking to maintain their position at the head of the table.
Half Time Score: 1-0
The second half started with the Quinns getting a foot hold into the game and Ponty seeming to defend deeper and deeper. The first scare came when the Quinns rattled the cross bar after just 10 minutes, this was then proceeded by Goulton, the home side keeper, pulling of a great save to turn the ball round the post to keep the Town ahead. After 15 minutes the inevitable happened, with the ball played into the home side's penalty area the Quinns deservedly scored to bring the game level at 1-1.
With 20 minutes remaining the Quinns scored a second to take the lead 2-1. Ponty rang the changes bringing on three substitutions as they went in search of the equaliser. With 10 minutes remaining Scott Hillman fouled a Quinns player in the centre circle and received his second yellow card which resulted in him being dismissed. With time now running out for the home side Alun Griffiths drove into the Quinns penalty area in injury time and appeared to be upended, however the referee waved played on, then the ball was smashed into a Quinns player who was judged to have handled the ball in the box and a penalty was awarded to the Dragons. The player was then dismissed by the official for remonstrating. Eventually when tempers calmed down Duncan Culley fired the ball home in the 96th minute to bring the scores level at 2-2.
Ponty disappointingly brought the curtain down on their season at home with a very fortunate point against an aggrieved Grange Quinns.
As a consequence of this result the Town surrendered top spot to Corus Steel and now find themselves second in the Division. With 6 away games now remaining this season the Dragons will have to perform far better on their travels if they are to find themselves in the top three at the end of the season.

Pontypridd travelled the short distance to Risca to face their neighbours for the third time this season.
The first half hour was very much a drab affair with Ponty looking as is if they were still feeling sorry for themselves after the mid week defeat against Corus. The game eventually sprang into life when Risca had a free kick 25 yards in the Pontypridd half, when the ball was played into Paul Michael the Risca Player Manager, who was given far too much room by the defending team, who proceeded to play in a team mate who finished well to give the home side the lead. Ponty managed to claw themselves back into the game on the 42nd minute when striker Duncan Culley tried a speculative shot which managed to crawl under the diving keeper to bring parity at the break.
Half Time Score: 1-1
After some harsh words at half time Ponty started the second half brightly and almost immediately took the lead with Matty Jones making the scoreline 2-1.
Risca responded by having an equaliser refused when a Risca attacker was rightly judged off side when he poked the ball home just before the hour. The Dragons proceeded to dominate the second half and further increased their lead when a short corner resulted in Culley getting his second of the game and 24th of the season from a header. In the closing minutes Jones was upended in the box which looked a certain penalty for the Town, only for the referee to award an indirect free kick, which Ponty proceeded to smash high and wide. After 10 minutes of injury time the match was finally brought to a close with Ponty gaining their 10th win in 12 games which keeps them top of a very tight division.
The Dragons have 7 more games remaining this season and any of the 8 teams in the top half of the division can still claim promotion. It would take a brave man to second guess who the lucky 3 teams would be at this stage! Pontypridd take on Grange Quinns at home next on Saturday 9th April, ko 2.30pm where another three points is a must if Ponty are to remain in the hunt for promotion. With this their last home game of the season the club hope they will have good support.

In a game that Ponty needed to win to maintain their promotion push they faced a Cwmbran team that had recently lost the services of their Manager.
The home team dominated the first half with having the ball cleared off the line just before half time from a Scott Hillman header.
During the first 45 minutes Lloyd Toghill's long throw was also a constant threat to the Cwmbran goal.
Half Time Score: 0-0
The second half again started with Ponty dominating the play.
The break finally came 10 minutes from time with the ball played into the feet of Mike Griffiths who managed to turn and slot the ball through for his strike partner Duncan Culley who was brought down in the box for a penalty for the home team. Culley picked himself up to convert his 18th goal of the season.
As Ponty proceeded to see the game out at 1-0, there was one final incident, when Brett Hewitt fell on the ball on the edge of the box. Cwmbran felt that the decision warranted a penalty, however the referee stood firm and awarded a free kick outside the box. Fortunately the away side smashed the ball against the wall to give Ponty another deserved 3 points.
Pontypridd Town now go into Tuesday's home clash with Goytre, top of the league, hoping to increase the points difference against their nearest rivals the ko time being 7 pm. On Saturday Ponty are once again at home against Llanwern ko 2.30 pm. Ponty hope as many supporters as possible can cheer them on until the end of the season with the hope of promotion to Division 2 of the Welsh League.

Pontypridd Town went into Saturday's game on the back of 2 games draws against both South Gower and Pontyclun.
Pontypridd were the brighter in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break as a result of a tap in by Matty Jones. However Ponty were unfortunate not to have increased their lead just before the break when the Cwmaman goalkeeper thwarted Matty Jones his second goal, gaining the upper hand in their one on one dual near the break.
Half Time Score: 1-0
In the space of seven minutes in the second half Ponty found themselves 2-1 down. Ellis decided to make both personnel and formation changes. He brought Mike Griffiths on for Jason Lewis and went 4-4-2 with Matty Jones moving out wide. Griffiths made an immediate impact with his presence up front.
Culley managed to pull a goal back for Ponty, to bring the scores level at 2-2. This was his 3rd goal in 2 games. The game seemed to be heading for Ponty's third draw in a row.
On the 94th minute Ponty had a corner, which skipper Toghill delivered into the box. Jones arrived at the front post for his second and Ponty's third which was ultimately the winner. The players celebrated jubilantly in the corner and the relief could be felt all around the ground.

Pontypridd travelled down the M4 in what was an appetizer for this afternoons battle of East versus West.
Ponty started the livelier 1-0 up after 15 seconds and 2-0 up after 8 minutes, the team from RCT were in dreamland, had they now finally turned the corner?
Offensively they played a magnificent serving, hitting the bar in an attempt to make it 3-0 and surely out of sight.
Then came something that can only be described as "harri carri" defending. Within 5 minutes the game was set at 2-2 with both goals coming from defensive mistakes. With the game now unbelievably at "deuce" Perkins proceeded to play a cross field ball that was cut out by the Gower striker who proceeded to find the net 3-2. Ponty were now scratching their heads thinking where has it all gone wrong?
Perkins was shortly withdrawn with Hewitt moving inside to partner Keepings in central defence and Griffiths coming on at left back. In fairness to Ponty they re-grouped and Buchman headed in his 2nd to bring the teams level at the break.
Half Time Score: 3-3
The second half started again with Ponty on top... surely if they can keep a clean sheet this half, then it was only a matter of time. Ponty were knocking on the Seasiders door but then after 15 mins Ponty as so many times this season contributed to their own downfall and once again handed the initiative to their opponents. After failing to win a free kick Summers remonstrated with the official and was subsequently sent from the field of play for "foul and abusive language".
From no where Ponty were now in danger of losing this game and needed to show togetherness and determination to ensure that all 3 points were not thrown away.
Ponty re-shuffled bringing Matty Jones on for Taylor who had an immediate impact - threading a ball through for Culley who was now through on goal. From no where came the Gower defender who sithed Culley down.. surely a PK..to total dismay the ref who had had a smashing game thus far waved play... the only luck Ponty had was no luck!
The game ebbed and flowed for the remaining 30 minutes. In fairness previously Ponty would have conceded late on and lost this game, i.e. UWIC / Briton Ferry... however they managed to stick in there with the 10 men and eventually came away with a disappointing point.
How good Ponty were going forward (probably the best this season) - they were equally disappointing defensively. Until the issues are resolved with the rear guard and eradicate the individual errors that have haunted them all season then Ponty deserve to be where they are... mid table.

After the weekend defeat against UWIC, Ponty needed to take all 3 points against Risca if they were to stay in the promotion race.
After 20 minutes there was little to choose between the 2 sides until Lloyd Toghill got caught in possession and Risca proceeded to take full advantage of the mistake and take the lead. Risca proceeded to get a foot hold in the game and came close moments later when the ball was fired across the face of the Ponty six yard box, just waiting for a Risca player to prod home, fortunately for the home side this didn't materialise.
As the break approached with Ponty looking to re-group and hopefully perform a lot better in the second half they had a set piece on the stroke of half time. Mike Griffiths chased down a lost cause and managed to cross for Duncan Culley to poke home to bring the scores level at the break. Risca trooped into the dressing room feeling deservedly hard done by - that they were not leading at half time.
Half Time Score: 1-1
After the break and some straight talking in the dressing room at half time, Ponty came out a totally different side. Mike Griffiths superbly turned in the box to make it 2-1 to the home side. Then from a corner Duncan Culley smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range for his second. Mike Griffiths then grabbed a brace and Ponty's fourth when Longy the Risca keeper failed to deal with Hewitt's free kick from the edge of the box.
Ponty ran out worthy winners with a second half performance that was a credit to them and now sit second in the Division. The substitutions made a significant impact in the second half, and will leave the Management much to digest before Ponty go again this Saturday, home against Cwmbran Town.

Pontypridd Town football club got back to winning ways last Saturday when they beat the former League of Wales club Cwmbran away from home by 2 goals to 1. At a very cold and windy Cwmbran Stadium both clubs were desperate for a win which would push them up the table and within reach of the front runners. Ponty fielded new signing Lloyd Toghill from Welsh League division 1 side Aberaman and he quickly settled down into midfield. His foraging runs when he linked up with Duncan Culley and Jason Lewis was proving to be a problem for the home defence and also his long throws to top scorer Ryan Buchman. It came as no suprise when the skilful Mathew Jones gave Ponty the lead with an excellent goal in the 30th minute which was well deserved. Although Cwmbran threatened on a few occasions it was Ponty who went into half time in the happier position.
Half Time Score: 0-1
Player Manager Allan Davies was proving the king pin in the Ponty defence with former Ponty player Grant Thompson causing a few problems. In the 60th minute after a defensive mistake Cwmbran equalised much to the concern of the travelling Ponty supporters who were huddled under the derelict stand. However there were smiles on their faces when Ponty took the lead again 6 minutes later with a fortuitous own goal by a Cwmbran defender. Cwmbran had a chance to equalise when Ponty's central defender Richard Jago's mistimed tackle saw the referee point to the penalty spot but the home player smashed the crossbar and the grateful keeper Chris Golton picked up the rebound. This win has put Ponty back in the race for promotion although they have a tricky away fixture against Cardiff Grange Quins at the new Athletic Stadium opposite the Cardiff City Stadium this Saturday KO 2pm. The club are desperate for help on match days and would ask anybody who would like to help to contact Secretary Adrian Dumphy on 07916457128.

After a good 4 - 1 home win against South Gower in mid week Ponty dissapointed their travelling supporters when they lost their away game to Llanwern by 3 goals to 2 in this Welsh League 3rd division clash.
The game started well for Ponty and they pinned Llanwern down for the first 15 minutes until a breakaway by the home side which saw them take the lead after a bad defensive error.
Half Time Score: 1-0
Ponty's display was so disjointed in the second half yet they equalised when leading goalscorer Ryan Buchman scored from close range.
Llanwern continued to play the better football and it was no suprise when they took the lead again from close range. With Ponty now having to push forward to get back into the game they fell for another sucker punch when Llanwerns rangy striker beat the offside trap with an excellent goal from 15 yards with Ponty now facing an uphill struggle.
Manager Allan Davies then brought on players from the bench and striker Duncan Culley made an impact when with just 5 minutes left he superbly fired home to make it 3-2. Ponty almost equalised but it was not to be as they trooped off the pitch with their heads down. Although Ponty were without their striker Chris Summers who will be out until the new year this defeat was a big blow to their promotion prospects which has already seen them lose 5 out of 10 games with 2 drawn. Last season Ponty lost 7 games which saw them finish in fith position which means they will now have to have a long run without any losses to stand any chance of promotion.

The biggest suprise for Ponty players and supporters alike was the apearance of prolific goalscorer Chris Summers at Caerau on Saturday. Manager Allan Davies moved quickly when he was given permission to speak to Summers by 1st divison Goytre over a transfer to Ponty where he scored close on 40 goals when they were promoted to the 1st Division of the Welsh League a few seasons ago. Goytre reluctantly agreed to the transfer just in time for Summers to play against high riding Caerau who had only lost one game this season.
After a very disapointing home loss last week Ponty knew that any further games lost would mean promotion would become more difficult. The way they started showed that they were determined to come away with a good result and as early as the 5th minute they took the lead. The move started on the right flank with Summers and Lewis Waite combining which then switched to Jason Lewis on the left wing who unleashed a rasping 20 yard drive that saw the ball hitting the back of the net.
With a reshuffled defence looking strong with Richard Jago playing alongside Ben Perkins, Ponty were taking the game to Caerau and playing entertaining football. It was therefore no suprise when in the 25th minute they increased their lead after Jago who moved up to support the attack turned in a ball which was heading over the goal line which hit a defenders hand. Summers picked up the ball took the penalty and cooly hit the ball into the net for Ponty to lead 2 0. Caerau then pushed up to get back into the game resulting in Ponty keeper Chris Galton making a succession of brilliant saves. In the 35th minute Caerau got the goal they deserved when from a corner their leading goalscorer Lee O'Brien scored to make it 2 1 to Ponty going into the break.
Half Time Score: 1-2
The second half saw the home team taking the game to Ponty in search of the equaliser and Corey Davies scored after another huge route one ball which saw a Ponty defender misjudging the bounce. With the home team pushing forward for the winner Ponty Manager Davies also changed his team hoping to get the winner. Both teams deserved a point and are sure to be going for promotion this season but with Ponty missing out last season they are determined to go one better this season and move into the 2nd Division.

The return from France of Football Consultant, Max James, certainaly proved to be positive as the Town went nap against Ammanford based Cwmaman United.
Once again managers Davies and Ellis shook up their squad with fit again Chris Golton, coming back into goal, Paul Dawes returning in midfield and the outstanding player in thier loss to Bryntition the week before, Richard Jago switching from the back four to lead the front line.
Manager Davies is pleased with how his squad is developing with this being proven by the Town receiving approaches from both Merthyr and Bryntirion for thier players, of which both players decided to stay with club.
From begining to end Pontypridd dominated this game and in the first half should have been at least 3-0 up but bad misses by Culley and Goodridge meant that come half time the scores were still level at 0-0.
Half Time Score: 0-0
No one could have predicted the goal feast of the second half but within 3 minutes Culley finally converted the chance which had been superbly carved out for him by Jago. Jago was by now causing all sorts of problems for the home side and with every attack the home side's back line seemed more and more shaky. Visiting winger Lewis burst into the box on the right hand side beating three Cwmaman defenders before planting his shot past Walton in the home goal. 2-0. Then on the 65th minute, from a rare attack, the home side pulled a goal back. Could Ponty hang on for the full points or just settle for one. The goal obviously inspired the West Walian side and they started to put together one or two good passages of play but in the 79th minute a tremedous cross by Jago on the left saw Culley add to his tally for the afternoon to put the visitors 3-1 ahead.
This goal certainaly killed off any home challenge for the points and a piledriver of a shot from the edge of the area by Goodridge took a slight deflection and into the net to put the visitors 4-1 ahead. But the biggest cheer of the afternoon was for Richard Jago's goal. A goal well deserved after all the hard work and creating he had done during the afternoon.
The signing of Geraint Goodrodge from Pontardawe appears to be a good one as in this game he played very well alongside the dynamo that is Paul Dawes. Manager Allan Davies is still keeping his options open with regard to new players but now believes that his squad building for this season is nearly completed

It would appear that the real Pontypridd Town only turns up for cup matches as the Town won their fourth cup match of the season when they defeated Welsh League Division One side Caerau (Ely) in the first round of the Nathaniel League Cup in Cardiff.
Travelling to Cardiff with a somewhat weakened squad Pontypridd can not have believed that by the end of the game they would have added another First Division scalp to their cup tally to add to their Welsh Cup win over Pontardawe Town.
The Town had a much changed defence with Leighton James coming in as goalkeeper to replace the injured Golton. Cory Richards returned as right back following his injury, Richard Jago partnered Manager Allan Davies in the centre whilst Andrew Corcoran came in at left back for his first full game of the season.
The game itself saw very little goalmouth action in the first half of which the highlight was the dismissal of a Caerau (Ely) side by referee Mike Ford after just 13 minutes for foul and abusive language but still Pontypridd failed to take advantage of their number superiority.
Half Time Score: 0-0
The second half was no different from the first half with Ponty just managing to create a few goal attempts whilst 10 man Caerau started to dominate the game.
Even so it came as a suprise when after 70 minutes the home side took the lead through Azziz. A quick counter break by Caerau saw them with a three on two situation and as the ball was passed quickly to Azziz he comfortably shot passed James in the away goal giving him no chance.
Although the Town huffed and puffed they failed to create a good goalscoring chance and it took the introduction of substitute Trotman to save the day. Introduced in 85th minute a Pontypridd attack saw the Hilaire in the home side's goal fail to collect a low cross and Trotman gratefully turned the ball into the net to take the tie into extra time.
With the ten men of Caerau tiring Pontypridd went ahead in the fifth minute of extra time when Buckmann held off the challenge of the home side's centre half to curl a shot into the bottom corner of Hillaire's goal. Eight minutes later Jason Lewis put Pontypridd into a 3-1 lead and despite sporadic attacks one from which Davies scored a second goal for the home side Pontypridd hung on for a fine victory. Manager Alan Davies' comment after the match that "I wish we could play cup games every week" was most apt.

A poor second half performance by the Pontypridd Town team in Gwent saw them collapse to a second league defeat of the season. Once again, just like their defeat at Goytre two weeks ago, it would appear that the team assembled by the management pairing of Davies and Ellis are a long way off from being promotion contenders. But it could have been oh so different as the Town led 1 - 0 at halftime through a goal from Matthew Trotman after just 13 minutes.
Although this goal, only served to disguise the fact that Monmouth were unquestionably the better side. As the Monmouth team started to create openings among the Ponty defence it was only the dominance and agility of 'keeper Chris Golton that allowed the visitors to go in at half time ahead.
Half Time Score: 0-1
Despite a dressing down at half time the players certainly did not take on board what had been said and after just two minutes of the restart a dribble through the heart of the Pontypridd side saw Monmouth's Davies equal the scores. With the magnificent Elliot Ford orchestrating no end of problems , Monmouth began to totally dominate the game. It was not long before the "Kingfishers" went ahead and it was only fair that the goalscorer was the excellent Ford. Having won his team a corner Ford , was left unchallenged and with the easiest of headers put Monmouth ahead.
Pontypridd tried to get going but, outside of 'keeper Golton and midfielder Matthew Jones, there were few other positives. It was only a matter of time before Monmouth went further ahead and it was the excellent Ford who proved to be the one to drive the sword well and truly into Pontypridd. Picking up the ball on the Monmouth right he skipped past full back Griffiths, toyed with centre back Penikett before dancing past him as Golton tried to push him as wide as possible, Ford committed Golton into a goal saving tackle only to push the ball past him and fire in the home side's third goal from the acutest of angles to claim the full points for Monmouth Town.
This defeat leaves the Town fourth from bottom of the league a long way from their promotion aspirations. Early days, but on this performance Pontypridd have a long way to go before classing themselves as promotion contenders.

Pontypridd Town came out on top in this battle of the "Pontys" Welsh Cup First Round tie played at Ynysangharad Park.
Pontypridd may have made a stuttering start to their Welsh League Third Division campaign but this victory over their First Division visitors is already their third cup game of the season. Pontardawe came to "The Park" in a confident mood expecting to easily roll over the home side and progress into the next round. But following Pontypridd's dismal showing in the league at Goytre the week before Player Manager Allan Davies and his assistant Rob Ellis made quite a number of alterations to the side, both positional and in personnel. With regular full back Brett Hewitt starting a three match suspension Alun Griffiths was switched to his normal left hand side last years Player of the Year Neil Davies returned at centre half with Allan Davies playing at right back.
Gareth Harbord returned after injury and was partnered in midfield by Matthew Jones, who made his full debut, and Will Penikett. Whilst up front Richard Jago formed a three speared attack with Ryan Buckman and Lewis Waite but it was Pontardawe who made all the early running and before the home side could settle into some sort of rhythm they had created three reasonable chances only to find home 'keeper Golton maintaining his early season form.
As the game went on the home side came more into it only to find that Pontardawe's young sweeper, Davies, was more than a match for the home attack and it was probably due to Davies having to leave the field, in the 35th minute, and miss the rest of the match following a clash with the home side's forward Buckmann that was to lead to Pontypridd's breakthrough.
And it was Buckmann who was to strike the decisive blow when a superb cross, in the 39th minute, from Lewis Waite was headed in by the strong centre forward to give the home side a 1 - 0 half time lead.
Half Time Score: 1-0
In the second half the visitors tried to impose their supposed superiority but the home defence proved a lot more resilient than at Goytre the week before but then in the 62nd minute 'dawe forward Bateman met a cross from the left and headed what looked to be a certain goal only for Golton to pull out a superb one handed flying save. So Pontardawe continued to huff and puff and when they failed to get any result from their efforts they started whinging and rough tactics with Golton the end of one or two nasty challenges but referee on the day, Michael Bullock, was more than a match for the visiting players. It was from the break down o0f one of 'dawe's attacks that Pontypridd scored their second goal. Driscoll broke up a visitors attack and transferred the ball quickly to Matthew Jones on the half way line, Jones sprinted into the visitors half beating two players in the area before calmly shooting past the visiting goalkeeper for Pontypridd's second goal of the afternoon. But the drama was not over and with just four minutes remaining Bullock awarded Pontardawe a penalty and a possible lifeline back into the game but the spot kick was poor and Golton made an easy save down to his right and the game was won and Pontypridd Town were in the hat for the Second Round Draw for this season's Welsh Cup.

A thunderous drive from 20 yards by Player manager Allan Davies proved to be the winning goal in this all Welsh League Third Division Welsh Cup encounter.
Pontypridd travelled to Briton Ferry for this tie having overcome Risca Utd in the previous round by a 1-0 scoreline, with the rebuilt Pontypridd Town team starting to knit nicely after an unbeaten pre season run. With regular centre half Neil davies serving the last of his two match suspension Player Manager Davies decided to play himself at the centre of defence alongside debut maker David Penekitt.
The home side started the brighter and although pressed the Pontypridd goal failed to create any real chances and by the 15th minute Ponty had asserted their authority and were staring to play some very nice one touch football. Then in the 24th minute a cross from the Ferry left winger Lloyd twisted in the air deceiving Golton in the Pontypridd goal and the visitors found themselves a goal down.
Pontypridd soon put this setback behind them and started to create openings but no real chances of a goal but in the 40th minute a weak cross from the right by Waite deceived the Ferry defenders allowing Town's Buckmann time to get to the ball and direct his header into the bottom corner of the home sides goal to level the scores.
Half Time Score: 1-1
The second half saw Pontypridd assert their authority with chances created for Buckmann, Lewis and Trotman and it was Trotman especially who was creating havoc in the Ferry team with his mazy runs beating opponents seemingly at will. As the game went on both sides appeared tired with half chances appearing for either side and with neither the Ferry or the Town able to convert any of them the game went into extra time.
At the beginingof extra time a re-organisation of the back four was to be the catalyst which would lead to Ponty's winning goal. Town right back Richards had to go off with an injury. This meant that Allan Davies had to switch to right back with Richard Jago coming on at centre half and what an important period of extra time Jago was to have. The first period of extra time was played out in much the same fashion as normal time and as both teams changed around for the second period of extra time everyone in the ground were expecting the tie to go to penalties but it was not to be. In the 23rd minute of extra time Pontypridd won a corner on the right, as both teams filled the Ferry box Jason lewis got ready to take the corner when Davies screamed for the ball as he burst from his right back position, this movement caught everyone by surprise and by the time Briton Ferry realised what was happening Davies had hammered his shot into the net from 20 yards for what was to be the winning goal.
With just seven minutes to go to full time Ferry threw everything at the Pontypridd goal but with Town 'keeper Golton catching everything and substitute Jago making three timely interceptions, one in the final seconds of the match Pontypridd hung on for a deserved victory.
After the match Pontypridd strengthened their squad with the signing of Alyn Griffiths, who played for Bradford Park Avenue last year and ex Merthyr defender Matthew Driscoll.

Pontypridd Town entertained Gwent side Croesyceiliog from Division Two of the Welsh Football League and entertain was the right word to describe a match in which both sides stove to play neat attractive football.
With the playing surface in Ynysangharad Park looking as good as it has been for a number of years the fare served up by both sides complemented the playing area.
It was the visitors who went ahead first when, in the 10th minute, confusion at a corner saw Davies of Croesyceiliog, show signs of Hamburg's Uwe Seeler, and back head the ball into the net from some four yards out. The Town pressed hard for an equaliser and it came after 35 minutes when when Lewis Waite, who was to be a thorn in the visitors side all afternoon was put through by Trotman. Waite switched the play to Lewis whose cross eluded the vistors defence and looked to be going out for a goal kick only to drop onto the magical boot of Town forward Jago who tapped in from 6 inches.
Within five minutes the visitors were back in the lead when Crossley's shot from 15 yards beat James in the home goal for the half time score to be 2 - 1 to the Gwent men.
Half Time Score: 1-2
The second half was to be the Will Penekitt Show as his "Frank Lampard runs" from midfield started to cause Croesyceliog problems and it was two goals from Penekitt over a fifteen minute spell saw the Town set up for victory. It was not to be as in the 79th minute Croesyceiliog's Davies claimed his second of the match with a fine shot from ten yards. With just ten minutes remaining Town sent on young 'keeper shaun Llewellyn for his goalkeeping debut but bouyed by their equaliser the men from Gwent pressed for a winner. Then with seconds left on the clock Davies had a shot brilliantly saved by Llewellyn who then immeadiately threw his body in front of another goalbound effort from Croesy's Arbuthnott, thus earing the Town a satisfactory draw.
Manager Davies is pleased with the way his new side is performing and playing a far more attractive brand of football than last season. His side certainally appears to know the way to goal and he hopes that "the goal of winning promotion will be achieved by playing attractive football."

Pontypridd Town travelled into Gwent to meet their fellow Welsh league Division Three colleagues Risca Utd in the Welsh Cup. After the uncertainty over the season's commencement, due to the appeal by Risca Utd, Pontyclun and a number of other clubs against relegation from the Welsh League, both teams were looking forward, finally, to a competitive match.
And it was the re-vamped Pontypridd side, with seven players making their competitive debut for the Town, who were in total control of the match through-out and who should have won the match by a far greater scoreline than just 1 - 0.
Missing their first choice centre back pairing of Neil davies and Dave Penekitt Manager Allan Davies decided to play himself alongside the ever dependable Richard Jago. It was a pairing that proved to good for the physical play of Risca and resulted in the home side not having one chance in the first half. Pontypridd, meanwhile, were creating some good chances. Unfortunately neither Waite, Buckmann or Lewis were able to convert the chances made for them. With debutante full back Cory Richards linking well down the right hand side the home side were constantly on the back foot.
Half Time Score: 0-0
The second half saw Risca in a far more competitive mood and it was Ponty's diminutive midfielder Paul Dawes who felt the competitiveness of Risca when he was hacked down on more than one occasion by a home side player. Although Risca were getting more ball possession they were still unable to pierce the Ponty back line. Then in the 60th minute Town winger Jason Lewis cut inside from the left and fired in a great shot which the Risca 'keeper Long failed to hold on to and as he spilled the ball there was Ponty's Trotman to poke the ball over the line to put the visitors ahead. Further chances followed after this with Dawes mis-hitting a shot when clear on goal, Jago heading wide from a very good angle and substitute Culley firing his shot the wrong side of the post following a good run.
With minutes left on the clock and Risca pressing for an equaliser their centre forward Davies headed goalwards into what looked like an open goal the Town 'keeper Golton sprung into action to pull off a super save to flick the ball over the bar. The save ended Risca's challenge and the whistle went to signal Pontypridd's progress into the second qualifying round and a trip to Briton Ferry/Llansawel on the 28th August.
On the 21st August Pontypridd entertain Croesyceiliog whilst Llantwit Fadre will be the visitors on the 24 august 2010.

An Ian Traylor penalty in the 36th minute was enough to claim all the points for table topping Ponty Town against second placed Aberbargoed Buds.
The Buds came to Ynysangharad Park having been beaten only once in the league and with former Cardiff City player John Lewis in charge. Town were aware that their opponents would be well organised and committed.
It soon became apparent that there were not going to be many goals in the match, with both defences in fine form denying opposing forwards any shooting chances. It was going to take a moment of magic and it came from Pontypridd's Geza Hajgato in the 35th minute.
Hajgato received a pass from Traylor some 25 yards out and burst into the Aberbargoed Buds penalty area. As Hajgato prepared to shoot he was clattered by the keeper and a penalty was awarded to the home side.
Pontypridd's top scorer Traylor placed the ball on the spot and shot confidently past the Buds' keeper to put the home side 1-0 ahead.
Half Time Score: 1-0
Although few clear chances were created by either side in the second half the visiting Buds had the majority of the ball.
But with new signing from Llantwit Fadre, Josh Evans being ably aided in midfield by Paul Dawes it was definitely a case of quantity but not quality on the visitors behalf. The final whistle was greeted by the home players as a cup final win as this result now takes them seven points clear of their challengers, although the Buds have five games in hand.
Next week the Pontypridd Town travel to another of their rivals for promotion, Goytre on Saturday, March 20

Pontypridd Town travelled to Abertilery Bluebirds with a depleted team that was missing key men Mike Jones, Neil Davies and Geza Hajgato. This Welsh League 3rd Division game needed Ponty to win to remain leaders at the top of the table. Ponty took the lead in the 8th minute after a centre from Danny Street found Ryan Jenkins who neatly placed the ball past the home keeper with consumate ease. Although the Bluebirds pressed hard for an equaliser they found the reshuffled Ponty defence were holding well which enabled them to keep their lead until halftime.
Half Time Score: 0-1
The second half saw the home side maintaining their pressure on the Town but were thwarted twice by Marty Ellacot with brilliant saves that brought applause from both sets of supporters. Ponty manager Allan Davies brought youth team player Ian Wride off the bench for his first team debut and he quickly settled in showing nice touches. After a number of counter attacks Dave Holmes scored Ponty's second and decisive goal when he cleverly chipped the home keeper who he saw comming off his line.
Manager Davies had nothing but adoration for his depleted and reorganised team who came away with a valuable 3 points. This win sets Ponty up for a mouth watering home game with former Cardiff City player John Lewis's team Aberbargoed Buds. The Buds have only lost one game this season and would lead the table by many points if they won their games in hand. The KO is at 2.30 at Ynysangharad Park and the club would like to see as many young, new and old supporters turning up for this very important game.

Pontypridd Town kept their place at the top of the Welsh League Division 3 with an exciting 3-3 away draw at Monmouth Town. On a pitch that made it impossible to play a passing game for both sides it made it more difficult for Ponty as they were without the skilfull Dean Morris and the experienced Neil Davies. Within the first few minutes Ponty realised they were in for a difficult time when the home side who were determined to avenge their 5 0 away defeat scored through Palmer.
Although Ponty were having more possession they were not able to draw level until the 30th minute when their powerfull defender Mike Jones headed home from a freekick. Ponty were not able to capitalise on their neat approach work and were failing to take their chances. Just before halftime Monmouth once again took the lead when leading scorer Tranter put the ball into the net from close range.
Half Time Score: 2-1
Ponty, who started the second half without the injured Mike Jones were finding the spirited home side a bigger challenge than the previous game, but both teams were being frustrated by some inconsistent refereeing which led to tempers becoming fraid and tackles getting heavier. After a period of pressure Ponty drew level again when a perfectly placed corner by Geza Hajgato was headed brilliantly into the back of the Monmouth net by Darrel Minett which gave the keeper no chance.
With honours now even and both teams putting on a great display on an increasingly difficult surface there was more excitement. With just 2 minutes to go Monmouth delivered what looked like the killer blow for Ponty when Tranter headed in from close range to give them the lead at 3-2. One thing you can say about this new Ponty side and that is they never give in. This was proved in the 2nd minute of injury time when Ryan Jenkins skipped past a couple of home defenders and gleefully put the ball in the back of the net to gain a hard earned point. This Saturday Ponty are once again are away facing another difficult game against Abertillery Bluebirds who could catch up with Ponty if they win their 4 games in hand.

This top of the table clash between the second and third teams in the Division was played in torrential rain and appalling conditions. In a game that saw both the home 'keeper Marty Ellacott and the Goytre 'keeper Gareth Williams both pull of a number of outstanding saves it was Pontypridd who came out on top to switch places with Goytre and move into second position in the division.
Half Time Score: 1-0
Both teams were acredit to the league and both tried to play football in the appalling conditions, more so Goytre who looked, even in the rain a very compact and skilful side. When Pontypridd took the lead after just 11 minutes, through a Dean Morris goal from a Allan Davies knockdown, the sparse home crowd thought that having seen the home side score ten goals in their last three games today's game would also be high scoring game. But it was not to be and it wasn't until the 85th minute when Town forward Richard Jago burst in from the left wing to finally beat the visiting 'keeper and seal a Pontypridd 2-0 win.

Pontypridd made the most of their early opportunity to gain revenge for their 2 - 0 loss down in Cwmamman in late September. This was a game in which they dominated to such an extent that a 7 - 0 half time lead would have been more appropriate than the 3 - 0 scoreline. An early goal from Anthony Waters put the home side on their way, Waters missed an opportunity after 26 mins to double his goal tally for the day and Pontys when he failed to convert a penalty. Then after 35 minutes Centre Back Mike Jones popped up to convert a corner but before this goal Waters had missed another chance to score and had also had a goal disallowed. On 39 minutes Ponty were awarded another penalty which top scorer Traylor stepped up and confidently converted. But shortly after this Jago took the ball off Waters toe and curled his shot wide of the far post and just before half time Cwmamman scored with what was really their first attack of the game.
Half Time Score: 3-0
In the second half before fans had time to settle in their seats Ponty's Clingo scored a spectacular 35 yarder to put the home team in an apparently unassailable lead 4 - 1. Unfortunately the home side went to sleep, allowed the visitors two more goals and ended up hanging on for their victory.

Once again Pontypridd forward Ian Traylor was the difference in this Taff - Ely derby.
With Pontyclun at the wrong end of the table and Pontypridd wanting the points to kick start their promotion challenge a competitive game was expected at Ivor Park and that is how it turned out to be.
With Pontyclun being led by former Pontypridd skipper Adrian James it was only five minutes before he made himself known to the visitors when he upended Pontypridd's midfield player Paul Dawes. The first half turned out to be an even encounter with neither 'keepers being tested to any great extent.
Half Time Score: 0-0
The second half saw the visitors come out more energised and prompting from wide player Nathan Hosgood created chances for Pontypridd forward's Waters and Jago. With neither player able to convert the chances created for them Manager Allan Davies replaced Jago with Lewis Waite and pushed Traylor into a more central role. As the game progressed both Waite and Town full back Minnett-Giles exposed the defensive frailty of the Pontyclun left side.
It was from one of these attacks that Traylor scored the only goal of the game when a Minnett-Giles cross found Traylor in the box. The forward controlled the ball and chipped the Pontyclun 'keeper to claim the points for Pontypridd.

A winning scoreline of 5 - 0 can look like an impressive victory but behind this score line lies a totally different story. That of a goalkeeper having an absolute nightmare first half and two visiting players having early baths before the half time whistle.
The Town must have realised that it was going to be their day when in the 13th minute Player Manager Allan Davies, not known for his goalscoring prowess hit a high ball towards the visitors goal only to see Collinson in the Risca goal fluff his attempted catch and allow the ball to sail into his net to put his side behind.
Then Risca made it even harder for themselves when the very physical Moore, who had already floored Ponty's Dean Morris with an arm, practically laid out Davies with a blatant body check. It took the referee only a split second to flash the red card and off trudged Moore. With Collinson not doing a lot to fill his defence with confidence Ponty went further ahead on twentythree minutes when recent signing Anthony Waters from Bridgend met a cross from the left wing to head past the visiting goalkeeper.
Risca continued to play the physical game but the referee, Steve Lloyd-Brennan, was more than a match for them punishing every foul they did. In the 37th minute following another foul on a Ponty player, this time Clingo, the referee played a good advantage and the ball was played through to top goalscorer Ian Traylor who finished with aplomb. The referee then proceeded to caution the offending Risca player only for the Risca captain to take offence and make a disparaging remark to Mr Lloyd-Brennan who promptly showed him the red card and sent him off for an early bath.
Just four minutes later Traylor increased the home sides lead and doubled his score for the day to put Ponty 4-0 up. Then in the sixth minute of added time the ever popular Ponty Forward Richard Jago tripped in the box but his head connected with a low cross for what was to be Pontypridd's final goal of the afternoon.
Half Time Score: 5-0
The home supporters finished their Bovril early for the start of the second half expecting a goal feast. But it was not to be as Pontypridd played some insipid football and of the few chances that were created Richard Jago missed two of what were probably the best.
Assistant Manager Dean Morris said "a win is a win and three points on the board" but I bet he was ruing his side's obvious failure to increase their goal average.
On the 24th October Pontypridd entertain high flying Cwmamman Institute, 2.30 pm in the Park.

For the second week in succession Pontypridd Town travelled to deepest Carmarthenshire, this time to meet League of Wales side Carmarthen Town in a Welsh Cup tie.
The date for the tie had been disputed from the moment that the draw had been made. Originally scheduled for Saturday 3 October, Carmarthen were unable to host the game on that date due to their ground being used for a FAW Representative game. With the home side turning down Pontypridd's offer to put on the game and Pontypridd's reluctance to travel to Carmarthen in mid-week, it was left to the FAW to decide the date of the tie. They decided on Sunday 4th October, and so it was that Pontypridd's merry little band travelled down, more in hope that in expectation.
And what a performance their side put up playing well and mainly being let down by their marking from dead ball situations from which Carmarthen obtained their goals. The unavailability of dominant centre half Mike Jones for this match was clearly exposed in the 8th minute when the home sides Hanford had a free header from a corner to put his side 1-0 ahead. But just five minutes later Ponty's Traylor scored the best goal of the match when he turned not just one but two defenders on the edge of the box and fired low into the home sides net to equalise for Pontypridd.
Although stunned by this goal Carmarthen quickly regained their composure and in a three minute period on 20 minutes they went 3-1 up when poor marking again let in the home sides Hicks and Cotterill for easy goalscoring headers.
Then just before half time Pontypridd's Richard Jago had what looked like a legitimate goal ruled out for offside.
Half Time Score: 3-1
Despite both sides creating chances Carmarthen were made to wait until the 68th minute to increase their lead when once again failure by the visitors to clear a corner and when the ball was played back in Carmarthen had three players unmarked at the far post but Hicks was first to the ball to head in his second and Carmarthen Towns fourth goal of the afternoon.
At the end of the game Pontypridd were complimented on the way that they played the game, unfortunately compliments do not win games and I am sure that Player Manager Allan Davies and his assistant Dean Morris would rather have won the game and not received any compliments.

If domination earned wins Pontypridd Town would have come away from this game with the points. Unfortunately they were caught cold in the first six minutes when Cwmaman went two up. A score line which the Town could not recoup.
Pontypridd travelled down to Carmarthenshire for the first ever league encounter between the two sides. Cwmaman, which is five miles outside Ammanford, had just one more league point than Pontypridd so an exciting tussle was expected.
What was not expected was for the visitors to be 2 - 0 down after just six minutes. It seemed as if the Town midfield and defence were still in the dressing room when they failed to close down Cwmaman's centre forward Davies and from fully 25 yards he thundered the ball past Marty Ellacott, who had stepped into the breach following regular goalkeeper's Leighton James' surprise move to Ton Pentre in mid week, in the Ponty goal. Instead of spurring the away side into life this goal seemed to have stunned them and just four minutes later a back pass to the 'keeper from Pont Centre back Mike Jones failed to reach him and the home side's forward Lewis was on it in a flash and tackled Ellacott. The ball spun free and Lewis chipped the Ponty keeper to put the home side 2 - 0 up. From this clash play was held up for a number of minutes whilst Ellacott received treatment.
Half Time Score: 2-0
This second goal certainly spurred the Town into life and from this moment on they dominated the game without creating many goal scoring chances. With Centre Forward Richard Jago, returning from injury, and winning every ball outside the box it took the Town until the 85th minute to put a decent cross into the box. Even an industrious performance by Ryan Jenkins failed to create any worthwhile chances. In order to weather the storm the home team resorted to time wasting as early as the 35th minute and by the 75th minute the referee's failure to deal with this matter was certainly infuriating the Ponty players and supporters.
As Ponty maintained the pressure, even late in the game, it was felt that if the Town could get just one goal another would come very quickly. It was not to be and Pontypridd fell to their fourth league defeat of the season.
Manager Alan Davies must certainly be wondering how his side can turn their domination of games into points if they are to make a concerted promotion push.

Llantwit Fadre were the visitors to The Park for the first ever Welsh League encounter between the sides. A very favourable sized crowd once again saw Ponty start the stronger keeping the Llantwit defence under pressure for long periods but once again the lack of a cutting edge and the superb form of the away side's keeper Lee Ruddall who was a rock at the back for the visitors thwarted Pontypridd.
Half Time Score: 0-0
Chances for the home side were few and far between but Llantwit managed to weather the storm and create a few chances themselves testing Pontypridd keeper James on a occasions but James proved to be up to the task denying Fadre's Prosser. With the large crowd creating a great atmosphere both teams appeared to run out of ideas of how to break down their opponents and to everyone present it appeared clear that the game was going to end in a stalemate.
Then in the last ten minutes Llantwit seemed to break out of the lethargy which seemed to be settling on the game to create three good chances which Prosser and Owen failed to convert.
As the referee Craig Greenstock blew his whistle for full time it became apparent that the visitors were more pleased with a point than the home side.

With a run of three home games in the first week of the season Pontypridd Town started the season in stuttering fashion, losing to Pentwyn Dynamos and being held to a goalless draw by near neighbours Llantwit Fadre in their first two games.
After the dreadful last season, which saw the club relegated to the Third Division of the Welsh League, a new management team has been installed and they have re-built the playing side with only one player remaining from that season.
The management team of Allan Davies, ex Burton Albion, and Town favourite Dean Morris were disappointed to have seen their re-built side capitulate to Pentwyn Dynamos by a 4-0 scoreline. But as the saying goes every line does not tell the true story and it was individual defensive mistakes which handed the Dynamos victory on a plate.
The visitors were outplayed in a game which should have seen Ponty go 3-0 up by the 25 minute only to be thwarted by some good goalkeeping by the visiting goalkeeper, Amochi, and the bluntness in front of goal by the home players. Then in the last 15 minutes of the first half two individual defensive errors saw the visitors return to the dressing room for their half time cuppa leading by a 2-0 scoreline.
Half Time Score: 0-2
The second half was much of the same with Ponty playing all the football up to the penalty area when it all broke down, although three more fine saves by the goalkeeper from Jenkins and Traylor maintained Pentwyn's supremacy.
It was inevitable that by not turning their pressure into goals the Town would fall farther behind and this happened in the 60th minute when Pentwyn carved out only their third opening of the game with a quick breakaway from their own half which saw Johnson convert for the Dynamos to go 3-0 ahead. Despite throwing on all their substitutes it made no difference to the Town and in the 71st minute another defensive error led to Pentwyn scoring their fourth through Johnson.
